This site, and this effort, was originally created in 2002. The founder of Prefer America Inc., had his own issues with the VA after being separated from the Army on a medical discharge in 2001, and knew that their had to be a better way. LIke a number of his efforts to promote America, they didn't get a lot of traction and like many of his efforts, they were interrupted during three years of civilian service in a place called Iraq. As Prefer America Inc. was created and as it becomes operational in April of 2007, Veteran Survival is an effort that we believe is essential for both our veterans and for the citizens who need to do more than fly a flag to support their country.

We are currrently accepting and receiving requests for assistance from our veterans. On the 1st of May, we will begin posting requests for assistance from those veterans, so that citizens can see them on-line and consider whether they have the ability to assist them. When a veteran contacts us, we have them send a DD-214, which is the discharge certification from the Department of Defense, by either scanning and sending it to us, faxing, or conventional mail. At that time, we'll review the document and store it - temporarily. We post the profile on VeteranSurvival.com without the name, and both wait for a citizen to show interest and sometimes seek citizens who have already contacted us. At that time, we place the two together and let them decide if they can get something done. If it doesn't work out, we continue to post the veteran until a match is found. Once a match is found, we take down the profile of that veteran and destroy our copy of their DD-214, and go on to the next veteran.

We are aware of "fakers" as well as those that would take advantage of our vets, and have systems in place to protect the integrity of the veteran, the citizen who would assist them, and Prefer America Inc.
